One Thread, Many Hands: Iowa State University's Sequicentennial Celebration

An exhibit of the textile treasures and clothing history of Iowa State University

February 25th, 2008-April 30, 2008

Featuring artifacts, textiles, garments, and accessories that embody the 150 years at Iowa State University. All items on display are from the Textile and Clothing Collection at Iowa State University and were carefully selected to capture the spirit of each decade between 1850 until now. Also included in the exhibit are pictures from the 1890's to the 1980's. Highlights from the exhibit include three designer pieces from: 1) Claire McCardell (1947 red/blk shirt-wasit dress) a legendary American sportswear designer, 2) Adele Simpson (ca. 1970's blk/brwn/bge coat) a designer who received inspiration from international fabrics and culture, 3) Arnold Scassi (1980's blk cocktail dress) a leading Canadian designer from this era. Another highlight of the exhibit is featured in the display case; an original aviator hat designed by the one and only Amelia Earhart.
